E! News revisited the years before Chris Watts killed his wife, Shanann Watts, and their two young daughters in Colorado. The story says Shanann often shared happy family moments online, even as their marriage was falling apart behind the scenes.
According to the report, Shanann and Chris Watts met in North Carolina in 2010 and married in 2012 before moving to Frederick, Colorado. Their daughters, Bella and Celeste, were born in 2013 and 2015, and Shanann was pregnant with a third child, a boy they planned to name Nico, when Watts killed the family.
The article says Shanann’s friend Nickole Atkinson reported her and the children missing on Aug. 13, 2018. Watts then told Denver 7 News that Shanann had come home from a business trip earlier that morning and that he later found the house empty, with the family gone.
Authorities discovered signs that something was wrong at the home, including Shanann’s phone, purse and a suitcase. Frederick police worked with the FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation as the search continued, and Watts was arrested on Aug. 15.
The report also notes that Watts later admitted to the murders and is serving five life sentences without parole. It adds that, according to the Daily Mail, he is planning to marry again.
