Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is adding another creative credit to his résumé with the release of a new song called “Your Dad,” according to Billboard. The heartfelt ballad marks a new step into music for the actor and former professional wrestler.
The song appears on the new Moana: Voices Across the Ocean album, a companion release to the live-action Moana reboot. Billboard reports that Johnson co-wrote the track with 2023 American Idol winner Iam Tongi.
In the song, Johnson sings about fatherhood over acoustic guitar while home-movie footage of him with his three daughters plays in the video. The lyrics include lines encouraging them to “move those mountains” and “sail across the oceans.”
Johnson told Rolling Stone that music has long been important to him and said he grew up around singing and ceremonial dancing in Polynesian families. He also said he sees the new song as something personal, describing it as a gift from him to his daughters rather than a release tied to sales or streaming numbers.
Johnson said Tongi initially brought him a different version of the song, titled “My Dad,” but he asked for it to be reworked so it would reflect his relationship with his daughters instead. He said the result was a song that felt right for him and his family.
