Dogs ride the waves at the World Dog Surfing Championships in California

The 10th annual World Dog Surfing Championships drew 14 dogs and plenty of spectators to Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California, according to UPI Odd News.

During Saturday’s competition, the dogs surfed in several categories while judges scored them on things like ride length, wave size, confidence, balance and tricks. Prizes included towel robes, medals and placards.

A Labrador retriever named Rippin Rosie won the large and extra large division and also took first place in the tandem stand-up paddleboarding event with her owner. French bulldog Iza won the medium category, while a mixed-breed dog named Bradley "Shortboard" Cooper finished first among the small dogs.

Organizers shortened the event because of rough water, which meant the final surf-off round was canceled. Instead, Rippin Rosie received a "spirit of surfing" award and was named the competition’s overall winner.
