DJ Harvey says dance music has never been better ahead of rare U.K. show

DJ Harvey says the dance music scene has never been better, even as he admits he does not often go to clubs unless he is playing in them, according to Billboard.

The English DJ, born Harvey Bassett, has spent decades behind the decks and is known for playing everything from disco and house to funk and techno. Billboard notes that he has built a reputation over the last 40 years at major parties and venues around the world.

This Saturday, Aug. 22, Harvey is set to play his only U.K. show of the year at a one-night revival of Ministry of Sound’s early-1990s Rulin party. He will perform open to close in The Box, alongside DJ Paulette, Don Letts, Heidi Lawden, Lovefingers and others.

Harvey also discussed his fall schedule, which includes shows in New York, Santa Monica, the new Head Trip dance festival in Southern California, and Miami’s III Points. In the interview, he spoke about living in Southern California, his family background, and the way he sees English adversity shaping youth culture and creativity.
