Conan O'Brien’s latest hairstyle is getting plenty of attention online, and not all of it is positive. Fans noticed the comedian had slicked back his signature pompadour during the July 20 episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, according to E! News.
The change quickly sparked jokes in the comments on YouTube, with viewers comparing the look to everything from a greaser to an Irish version of The Sopranos. Some fans also wondered whether he had simply just gotten out of the shower before recording.
Others pointed out that neither guest Molly Shannon nor co-hosts Sona Movsesian and Matt Gourley brought up the hairstyle during the episode. One commenter said they expected a dedicated segment about Conan’s hair.
O'Brien has previously said his hairstyle is here to stay, telling Vanity Fair in a 2025 interview, “I went with this a long time ago, and there's nothing we can do.” He has also compared giving up his usual quiff for a film role to “being Superman without his cape.”
