Color Me Badd says Kevin Thornton left group in 2016 after abuse allegations

Color Me Badd has issued a statement after estranged daughter Mikayla Thornton accused former member Kevin Thornton of abusive behavior in a recent interview, according to Stereogum.

In the interview, Mikayla Thornton described what she called a violent and controlling household and said her father used religion as justification for abuse. She also claimed Child Protective Services visited the home multiple times and said her parents failed to protect her from sexual abuse by other children at school.

After the allegations surfaced, Color Me Badd posted a message on its official Instagram account saying it recognized the courage it takes to speak publicly about painful experiences. The group said its thoughts are with Mikayla, her siblings, and everyone affected by the situation.

The statement also said Kevin Thornton has not been a member of Color Me Badd since 2016, following the resolution of federal litigation involving the group. According to the band, he has had no involvement in its touring, management, or business operations since then.

Color Me Badd added that it would not comment further on the allegations or on private matters involving people no longer affiliated with the group.
