Charli XCX is getting a fresh wave of attention for her role in Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, which opened in theaters Friday, July 31, according to Stereogum.
The movie shared an exclusive clip with Pop Crave to mark the release, and many viewers focused on Charli’s attempt at an American accent. Stereogum noted that some fans were not impressed with her earlier accent work, and this new clip has sparked even more discussion.
People online have also pointed out that the scene’s visual setup resembles an SNL sketch. Still, the main conversation has centered on Charli’s accent, which has continued to stand out in the clip.
Elsewhere, Charli recently headlined Lollapalooza and performed the Wuthering Heights tracks “House” and “Dying For You” live for the first time, according to the report. She also closed her set with the full David Cronenberg outro of “No One Lasts Forever,” after leaving that part out during a recent live debut in Nashville. On Thursday, she also appeared during Lorde’s set.
