Bruno Tonioli says the judges on Dancing With the Stars are becoming more demanding as the series gets more competitive, according to E! News.
Speaking during the Behind the Mirrorball panel at Dancing With the Stars Con on Aug. 1, Tonioli said the show has changed over the years and that the contestants are now performing at a higher level. He noted that this has pushed him, Carrie Ann Inaba and Derek Hough to look more closely at the details of each routine.
Tonioli said the panel now evaluates not just technique, but also how well the dance is executed and how the choreography comes across from an artistic perspective. He added that his judging style has evolved because of what the dancers are able to deliver on stage.
The longtime judge also said some celebrity contestants have a special quality that stands out to him. Still, he stressed that everyone is judged the same way and that he bases his comments only on what he sees in front of him.
