An Alberta man says a marmot may have taken a 75-mile ride in his car after the animal was found investigating the family's garage in Airdrie, according to UPI Odd News.
Chris Ratzlaff said one of his children first noticed the large rodent in the garage last week. At first, he thought it might be a porcupine, so he left the garage door open and waited for it to leave.
When the animal finally came out, Ratzlaff realized it was a marmot. He told CTV News that he believes the marmot likely hid in the engine compartment during a recent drive from Kananaskis.
He said the marmot was seen around the neighborhood over the following days before returning to the garage on Saturday. Ratzlaff then closed the garage door and contacted the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, which took the marmot in and confirmed the female animal was healthy and feisty. The group plans to return her to the wild in the Kananaskis area this week.
