Brandon Flowers debuts new solo songs and joins Newport Folk Festival guests

Brandon Flowers debuted several new songs and made surprise guest appearances with Lucy Dacus and Nathaniel Rateliff at Newport Folk Festival, according to NME.

The Killers frontman played his own set at the Rhode Island festival on Sunday, where he gave live premieres to three songs from his upcoming solo album Thrasher. He also introduced the previously unheard track “Tiger’s Blood” and revisited songs from The Desired Effect for the first time since 2016.

Flowers’ set included stripped-back versions of Killers songs “Read My Mind” and “When You Were Young,” along with “The Getting By” from The Killers’ 2021 album Pressure Machine. Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith also joined him for a performance of “When My Time Comes.”

Flowers had already appeared at the festival on Friday, when he joined Lucy Dacus for a cover of Jim Croce’s “Time In A Bottle.” He later returned during Nathaniel Rateliff’s closing set to perform “Atlantic City,” “Paradise” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”

Thrasher is set for release on August 21 via Island Records. Flowers is also planning a North American, UK and Ireland tour later this year, and has said a second completed solo album will follow.
