Beabadoobee has released a new song called “Switchblade,” according to NME. The track is the latest preview from her fourth studio album, Pylon, which is set for release on September 18 through Dirty Hit and Interscope.
The song explores questions about self-defence and bravery, with Bea asking whether you “start the fight or take the flight.” NME described the track as a laid-back, fuzzy alt-rock song with childlike vocal chants, a bright electric guitar riff and heavy feedback.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Beabadoobee said the song was made in a hotel room and that she could not even remember which U.S. state she was in at the time. She also said “midwest emo” was a major influence on the track.
“Switchblade” follows the earlier release of “Sun Has Set,” the first single from Pylon. The album will also feature contributions from Pinegrove’s Evan Stephens Hall, Deftones’ Chino Moreno and Title Fight’s Shane Moran, while Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975 produced the song “Write Me A Letter.”
