A maintenance worker was rescued after becoming stuck inside a 130-foot-tall gas station sign in Wilmington, Illinois, according to UPI Odd News.
The Wilmington Fire Protection District said the worker was performing maintenance on the sign on Lorenzo Road, near Interstate 55, when his lift malfunctioned around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters said they could not reach him with their ladders because the equipment tops out at 100 feet. Instead, crews used a drone to stay in contact with the worker while help was arranged.
A replacement boom lift was brought in from Joliet with an Illinois State Police escort. Firefighters said the worker declined medical treatment and was not seriously injured.
