The Guest List have released a new single called “Mundane,” giving fans another look at their debut album “Something Real,” according to NME. The Manchester indie band’s first full-length record is due out on August 28.
The song follows earlier album tracks “You Should Care,” “If Ever Your Devil Is Kind,” and the title track. In the new single, frontman Cai Alty sings about the small irritations of daily life and the feeling of being stuck in repetitive routines.
Alty said the song began with a riff he wrote a couple of years ago, which he described as the grungiest thing he had created at the time. He said the lyrics focus on ordinary tasks like fitting curtains and soaking dishes, and on how those moments can wear people down when life feels too predictable.
“Something Real” was recorded in Norway with Matias Tellez and partly produced by The Coral’s James Skelly. The 12-track album also deals with themes including mental health, climate change and domestic violence, while balancing those subjects with vulnerability and resilience, according to the band.
The Guest List formed in 2021 and released their debut EP “When The Lights Are Out” last year. Since then, they have supported Blossoms and Inhaler and are set to appear at Reading & Leeds and Victorious later this month.
