Stephen Baldwin says faith, not fame, led him out of Hollywood

Stephen Baldwin says he chose faith over the kind of fame that comes with being a major Hollywood star. In an interview published Aug. 2 with People, and reported by E! News, the 60-year-old said he did not want the pressure of becoming “a big star” and was content to stay close to his roots.

Baldwin said his path changed after he and his wife, Kennya Baldwin, were told they would one day become born-again Christians and have their own ministry. He admitted he was skeptical at first, but said he later developed an interest in evangelism after seeing a skateboarding ministry in Fort Lauderdale and feeling called in that direction.

That interest eventually led to his 2004 Christian skate film Livin’ It, which Baldwin described as a turning point in his career. He said the project spread quickly and helped open the door to live church events, which is when he decided to leave Hollywood.

According to E! News, Baldwin now says his focus is on faith and family. He and Kennya are parents to Alaia Baldwin Aronow and Hailey Baldwin Bieber, and he is also a grandfather to two young grandchildren. Baldwin said he feels blessed and is still open to whatever opportunities come next.
