Soundgarden’s final album is now in the mixing stage, according to drummer Matt Cameron. He shared the update on the Let There Be Talk podcast and said the band still does not have a release date.
Cameron said the group is working through the last steps carefully and hopes to get the project finished before looking at what comes next. He described the process as long, but said the band is focused on moving it forward one stage at a time.
He also confirmed that the record will include eight songs with vocals from late frontman Chris Cornell. Cameron added that there were a few instrumental pieces left over, which guitarist Kim Thayil may want to continue developing.
According to NME, Soundgarden had previously said they were close to completing the album after settling a legal dispute with Cornell’s estate in 2023 over unreleased songs. The band had been writing material with Cornell before his death in 2017.
