Skullcrusher is the latest artist featured in Sounds Of Saving’s “Song That Found Me At The Right Time” series, according to Stereogum. The nonprofit says it creates tools and resources for young people ages 14 to 24 to help them use music in support of mental health and wellness.
In the new video, Helen Ballentine, who records as Skullcrusher, performs Tim Buckley’s “Song To the Siren” with a style inspired by This Mortal Coil. The performance follows her 2024 album, And Your Song Is Like A Circle.
Ballentine also speaks in the video about addiction, finding community in rehab, and learning to sit with anxiety and other difficult emotions. She says it can take time to acknowledge those feelings before moving forward.
“If you're feeling really dark, you kind of have to sit in that for a little, and come to a point where you're ready to accept it, and move on,” she says in the clip. The testimonial and cover are available through Sounds Of Saving.
