Sheryl Crow made a surprise appearance at Disney’s Experiences Showcase during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Saturday, according to Billboard. The nine-time Grammy winner used the moment to reconnect with Pixar’s Cars franchise.
Crow premiered “Built to Last,” which will serve as the theme song for the upcoming Disney Jr. series Cars: Lightning Racers. She then followed it with a performance of “Real Gone,” one of the standout songs from the original Cars film.
The surprise came as the original Cars movie marked its 20th anniversary this past June. Crow’s return felt especially fitting because “Real Gone” appeared in the 2006 Pixar release.
According to Billboard, Crow wrote “Built to Last” and also contributed 10 more original songs to the series. Cars: Lightning Racers is set to debut on Disney Jr. and Disney+ in 2027.
The new series will bring Lightning McQueen, Mater and their friends back to Radiator Springs for more adventures. Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy and Bonnie Hunt are among the familiar voices returning for the project.
