Sam Smith is engaged to fashion designer Christian Cowan after three years of dating, the singer confirmed in an interview published July 28, according to E! News and the New York Times.
Smith said the title of their upcoming album, Hazel Eyes, is a reference to Cowan’s eye color. The 12-track album, due out Aug. 21, also includes several songs centered on their relationship.
Speaking about love and identity, Smith told the outlet they see something “radical” in being queer and singing love songs in the current moment. They added that outside criticism would not change the way they love.
Cowan has also been part of Smith’s fashion moments. Smith wore a dramatic 52-pound feathered look designed by Cowan to the 2026 Met Gala earlier this year, and Cowan said in a May Instagram post that the outfit was “a love letter” to Smith.
