Randy Travis surprised a cancer patient at a hospital in Illinois after initially being asked to join a virtual meeting, according to E! News. Instead of a Zoom call, Travis and his wife, Mary Travis, traveled from Texas to make the visit in person.
“We thought, ‘We can do one better than a Zoom,’” Mary Travis told ABC 7 Chicago in a joint interview, adding that they decided to “zoom on up to Zion.”
The visit carried extra meaning because Travis has lived with lasting effects from a near-fatal stroke he suffered in 2013. Mary Travis said the patient shared the same outlook as her husband, describing both of them as choosing joy over defeat.
During the meeting, Travis signed a poster that the patient’s family said she had treasured for years. Mary Travis said her husband wants to touch lives whenever he can, and that if he reaches even one person, he feels he has done his job.
