Pixies have responded to Dave Grohl’s praise of their 1988 debut, Surfer Rosa, after he called it “the perfect record” during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 6Music, according to NME.
Speaking backstage at Mad Cool festival 2026 in Madrid, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering were asked about Grohl’s comments and both agreed with him. Santiago said he had to agree, while Lovering called it his favourite Pixies album.
The band also said they do not know Grohl personally, even though their careers have run in parallel since the 1990s. Santiago joked that he was happy with Grohl’s description as long as he had not simply called the album “great”.
When asked to name the perfect Foo Fighters album, Santiago picked 1997’s The Colour and the Shape, pointing to its sound and producer Gil Norton. Santiago also gave an update on Pixies’ next moves, saying the band has a break coming up in October and plans to get together then to work on more songs.
