Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament to publish photo book on the band’s early years

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has announced a new photography book, Since Forever, that will feature more than 250 images from the band’s early years, according to NME.

The hardcover visual memoir, sized at 9 inches by 12 inches, collects Ament’s black-and-white photos of the people, places and moments around Pearl Jam’s rise in the 1990s. Many of the pictures were taken between 1990 and 1998, and Ament says about 90 percent of them have never been published before.

Ament created the book with his brother, designer Barry Ament, and the photos are paired with Jeff Ament’s own reflections and observations. He said the project began as a way to preserve old negatives and grew into a book idea his brother suggested.

The book includes backstage shots, studio images and photos from travel between shows, giving a look at Pearl Jam’s breakthrough from both inside and outside the band. Since Forever is available for pre-order through Pearl Jam’s official website and will be sold at selected independent bookshops on September 25.

Ament was part of Seattle’s alternative music scene before co-founding Pearl Jam. After the death of Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood in 1990, Ament and Stone Gossard began working with Mike McCready before bringing in Eddie Vedder to form the band.
