Pavement played their first show since November on Friday night at Mosswood Meltdown in Oakland, California, according to Stereogum. The performance came during the festival’s pre-party, which featured Christina's Trip, Memo PST, Vivian Girls, Wednesday, and Pavement as the headliner.
Midway through the set, the band made an unexpected detour into Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Stephen Malkmus sang the wrong lyrics through the fifth and sixth verses, though Stereogum noted he did land a few correct words along the way.
The cover followed a performance of “Harness Your Hopes,” the Pavement song that has seen a renewed boost in popularity among younger listeners. Stereogum described the moment as a very unserious version of the classic rock song.
Mosswood Meltdown has expanded into a three-day event for 2026. The festival was hosted by John Waters, who introduced Pavement with a long set of remarks before the band took the stage.
