New Translations have unveiled a new song called “Modern Lovers,” giving fans another look at the synth-heavy direction they’ve been developing with producer Yves Rothman, according to Rolling Stone.
The Nashville indie-rock band, fronted by Oliver Pierce, had already drawn attention earlier this summer with a standout set at a CMA Fest rock takeover in downtown Nashville. Their performance mixed bright synth sounds with an energetic stage presence at Jon Bon Jovi’s honky-tonk during a bill led by Cage the Elephant.
Pierce said in a statement that “Modern Lovers” reflects on the gap between who the group was during the pandemic and who they are now. He described the song as being about longing for the sense that life was open-ended, when the future felt less certain and more full of possibility.
The track also serves as a preview of the band’s upcoming album, which will follow their 2025 debut, Vacation. Rolling Stone noted that New Translations are part of a growing Nashville indie-rock scene alongside bands including Lombardy, Flight Attendant and Snooper.
