Michael Strahan is responding to backlash over a recent interview with former NFL player Chris Johnson, according to E! News.
Viewers criticized Strahan for not asking Johnson about the connection between football and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, during their conversation last month. The interview focused on Johnson’s 2025 ALS diagnosis.
On the July 28 episode of The Dan Patrick Show, Strahan said those upset by the questions should have been the ones doing the interview. He said the point was to let Johnson share the story he wanted to tell.
Strahan also said he dislikes when interviewers try to make a story about themselves or chase a bigger headline. He said he asked Johnson about football and the support he has received from the NFL, and noted that Johnson has twin sons who play football.
Strahan said he stands by how the interview was handled and is proud that ABC helped bring Johnson’s story to viewers. He added that criticism does not bother him, saying critics are often part of the job.
