Mel C says a blunt comment she made to Victoria Beckham after the 1996 BRIT Awards nearly got her removed from the Spice Girls, according to E! News.
On a recent episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast, the singer recalled that she told Beckham to “f--k off” while the group was leaving the event and heading to their car. She said she went home believing it was just a small exchange, only to wake up the next morning and find herself in serious trouble.
Mel C said Mel B and Geri Halliwell were upset with her at the time and told her they were “disgusted” by her behavior. She also said the group’s manager called her into a meeting and warned her that if something like that happened again, she would be gone.
In the interview, Mel C said the incident frightened her because she thought she might lose the opportunity she had dreamed about since childhood. She later told People in 2020 that the experience pushed her into self-policing and perfectionism as she tried to protect her success.
