Markéta Irglová honored her former The Swell Season bandmate Glen Hansard in a Facebook post on Wednesday, a day after his funeral in Dublin, according to Billboard.
Irglová wrote that Hansard was “a big spirit on a big mission” and said she believed he had a gift from God and a special power from the earth. She added that helping him carry what he bore along the way was “the honor of my life.”
Hansard, who was 56, died last week in an early morning motorcycle crash in Dublin. Family, friends and fellow musicians gathered at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to remember his life and career.
Among those paying tribute were U2’s Bono and The Edge, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Hozier, Imelda May, Jake Clemons and Liam Ó Maonlaí. Bono performed a spoken-word version of U2’s “Beautiful Day” with new lyrics written in Hansard’s honor, and the service closed with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young.”
