About 200 people came together Saturday at the Anderson family farm to honor the life of Oliver Anderson, a longtime Maricopa farmer whose ties to the community stretched back generations, according to InMaricopa.
The Oct. 24 memorial included a barbecue luncheon and service attended by family, friends and former employees. The family displayed plaques, awards, memorabilia and a slideshow of photos from Anderson’s life, while members of American Legion Post 133 presented the colors and recognized Anderson with a tribute to his family.
Anderson’s sons remembered his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, his devotion to his wife and family, and his ability to spot new opportunities. The family said Anderson returned to the farm in July 1954 after military service, and that farming remained central to his life for decades.
Beyond farming, Anderson also served about 10 years on the local school board and was active with Rotary and 4-H, where he taught tractor skills and worked with livestock. During the memorial, the family also shared a 2018 InMaricopa video interview in which Anderson reflected on how Maricopa had changed over time.
