Vice Mayor Vincent Manfredi is asking Maricopa residents to stay informed and take part in local government by attending the City Council special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the City Council Chambers.
In a letter to the editor published by InMaricopa, Manfredi wrote that residents do not need to be experts in city government to participate. He said simply caring about the community and paying attention to the issues is enough to make a difference.
The council agenda includes several topics affecting city operations, including a proposed agreement between the Maricopa Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the eTrace firearm-tracing system. Members will also review updates to traffic and parking regulations, including roadway markings, double parking and restrictions involving certain types of vehicles.
Other items on the agenda include proposed zoning changes for food truck courts, the Maricopa Municipal Court’s annual report, an update on the city’s event strategy, and specialized fire service training involving the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department and Chandler Fire and Rescue.
Manfredi said the city posts agendas and supporting documents online before meetings, giving residents a chance to hear the discussion and understand why decisions are being considered. He added that public participation and respectful disagreement help make local government stronger.
