Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is clarifying what she means when she says her Never Have I Ever character, Devi, is “dead” after the show’s fourth and final season. In an interview with E! News at Netflix’s End of Summer Bash on Aug. 13, she said a return would only make sense if the right script and timing came together.
Ramakrishnan joked that she did not want fans to get their hopes up, but she did leave the door open a crack. She said she does not see it happening anytime soon, though she would consider it if everything lined up.
The 24-year-old said her comments come from a place of respect for the series and for Devi, the teen character created by Mindy Kaling’s team. According to E! News, she said she loves the show, does not want to compromise the story that resonated with viewers, and would not want to rush into another version just for a paycheck.
Ramakrishnan is moving on to another Netflix project as well. She is set to appear in season two of Elle, where she plays Sam Reed, and she described the character as an “evil doppelganger” to Elle Woods.
