Keo share soaring new single 'Pistol' ahead of debut album

Keo have released a new single called “Pistol,” according to NME. The track is the latest preview from the London band’s debut studio album, “Put A Smile On For Me,” due out on September 25 through Island.

The song opens with a soft acoustic guitar before building into a big, expansive anthem. A press release says the lyrics explore the way memories, relationships and experiences can continue shaping a person long after they are gone.

Frontman Finn Keogh said he wrote the song with “dead stars” in mind, describing the image as something that died long ago but is only now visible in its light. He said that idea also applies to people.

Keogh and guitarist Jimmy Lanwern self-produced the 11-track album, which was written and recorded over 10 days. The band have said the record draws inspiration from Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and Radiohead, while still developing its own sound.

Keo recently opened for Wolf Alice at shows in London’s Finsbury Park and Newcastle’s Exhibition Park. They are also scheduled to play several UK festivals this summer before a sold-out headline tour this autumn, including a date at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town.
