Firefighters and animal control officers in Kentucky worked together to rescue a dog that became trapped about four feet underground beneath her owner’s yard, according to UPI Odd News.
Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control said officers were called to a Featherston Drive home on Saturday after a dachshund named Veeta went into a tunnel she found in the yard.
The agency said erosion, limestone and the roots of a nearby silver maple tree had formed a maze-like cave under the property. Veeta ended up nearly ten feet from the spot where she entered.
The Lexington Fire Department joined the effort, and firefighters, animal control officers and neighbors spent five hours digging carefully to reach her. Veeta was pulled out covered in dirt, frightened and uninjured, then returned to her owners.
