Former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said rising fuel prices are putting added pressure on Arizona families, according to a letter published by InMaricopa.
Nez wrote that he recently spent $138.75 to fill up his truck and said higher gas and diesel costs are forcing him to think carefully about every trip he makes from Northern Arizona to his ranch, about 130 miles away. He said the expense also affects trips to visit residents in Maricopa.
In the letter, Nez said a 25-gallon tank of diesel that cost about $92 a year ago now costs more than $160. He said that extra money could instead go toward household bills or food.
Nez blamed Washington policy and said Congressman Eli Crane has had chances to stop what he described as a costly war with Iran. He said Crane voted six times to keep it going and argued Arizona needs leaders who will stand up for working families when policies make life more expensive.
