Jenna Ortega is opening up about the tougher side of starting in Hollywood at a young age. In an interview published Aug. 11 in Esquire, the Wednesday star said she worked hard to avoid being a burden on set as a child actor.
Ortega said she was so eager and grateful to be there that she kept her focus on her work and tried not to ask for anything. According to her comments, that meant she would sometimes go all day without eating or drinking because she did not want to get in anyone’s way.
Looking back, Ortega said she now thinks that may have been a mistake because she was not taking care of herself. She added that she has been driven to act since she was 7 years old, when she first told her parents about her goal.
Ortega also said fellow child star Dakota Fanning inspired her and helped her understand what acting could be. She pointed to Fanning as someone who showed wisdom at a young age and shaped the way she saw her own path in the industry, according to E! News.
