Jack Hughes is not offering much when it comes to his personal life. In an exclusive interview with E! News at the TIME100 Sports Gala on July 16, the New Jersey Devils player said he is “a pretty normal guy” and prefers to spend his time with family and friends.
Hughes did not discuss the dating rumors involving Tate McRae, but he did talk about how he has spent his offseason. He said he has played “so many rounds of golf” and enjoyed the Fourth of July back home, adding that he has had a great summer before getting ready to return to hockey.
The 25-year-old said he expects to “ramp it up” before NHL season begins in September. According to E! News, Hughes said he is looking forward to getting back on the ice and returning to the routine he has followed for years.
Hughes and McRae first sparked dating rumors in December after they were seen together in New York City following one of his games. Multiple outlets reported in March that they were in a relationship, though neither has confirmed it.
He also said he is happy to see hockey getting more attention thanks to shows like “Heated Rivalry” and “Off Campus,” calling the extra interest good for the sport.
