Green Day surprised fans with a live performance at the afterparty for the Nimrods premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, August 12, according to NME.
The band played at the American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood after the first screening of their new coming-of-age comedy, which was written and directed by Lee Kirk.
Setlist.FM reported that Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool performed 16 songs as a trio, without their usual touring musicians. The set opened with “Going To Pasalacqua” and included “Only Of You,” which was played live for the first time since 2017.
The show also featured older songs such as “Paper Lanterns,” “2000 Light Years Away,” “Brat,” “Scattered,” “Nice Guys Finish Last,” “Minority,” “Longview” and “Bobby Sox.” After the premiere, Green Day shared photos from the event and said they had long dreamed of making a Green Day movie, calling Nimrods “yours tomorrow” and encouraging fans to see it in theaters nationwide.
Nimrods stars Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust as members of the fictional Kansas City punk band Analog Dogs. Green Day appear as themselves in the film and are listed as producers, while the cast also includes Mckenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn.
