The Grateful Dead are set to release a new box set, Summer Magic 1985, on Sept. 18, according to Rolling Stone. The 20-CD collection looks back at the band’s 20th anniversary “Twenty Years So Far Tour.”
The set includes seven previously unreleased concerts from the run, among them three shows at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California, along with performances from Saratoga Performing Arts Center in New York, Hershey Park Stadium in Pennsylvania and Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
Rolling Stone also noted that a version of the June 30 show from Merriweather Post Pavilion will be sold separately as a 3-CD set or a 4-LP vinyl release. A performance of “Sugar Magnolia” from that show is available to hear now.
In a statement, David Lemieux, the Dead’s legacy manager and archivist, said the June 30 “Shakedown Street” is widely regarded as one of the band’s best single-song performances. He also said he first became a fan of the tour as a teenager after hearing a tape from the Greek Theatre run.
Summer Magic 1985 will be limited to 10,000 copies.
