Fontaines D.C. performed their first show since the unexpected death of manager Trevor Dietz as part of the final BBC live session at Maida Vale, according to NME.
The session took place last Friday, July 31, at the London studios and marked the last BBC Live Session to be held at the site. The BBC has been moving ahead with plans to relocate its sessions to a new studio at Olympic Park in east London.
For the occasion, the band chose a set of more tender songs rather than new material. They played ‘Favourite’, ‘It’s Amazing to Be Young’, ‘Big Shot’, ‘Bug’ and early track ‘Roy’s Tune’, which had not appeared in a setlist since 2024.
Steve Lamacq used his Radio 6 broadcast to reflect on the end of the Maida Vale era, saying the sessions had been a major part of his life. He also described the studios as a historic space that had played an important role in British music broadcasting.
NME noted that Maida Vale Studios was sold by the BBC in 2023, with plans to keep the building as a studio space while preserving its legacy. Fontaines D.C. are due back on the road later this month for European dates, ahead of larger shows including a headline slot at Reading & Leeds 2026.
