An engineering prodigy from Florida has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s youngest college professor, according to UPI Odd News.
Nathan Thomas was 18 years and 346 days old when he began teaching at Miami Dade College in August 2023. Guinness said that made him the youngest male professor ever, breaking a record that had stood for 306 years.
Thomas was also younger than the previous female record holder, Alia Sabur, by 16 days when he earned the title. He had started dual-enrollment classes at Miami Dade College at age 10 and later transferred to Florida International University at 14.
By 18, Thomas had completed a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He is now teaching online courses while pursuing a juris doctor degree at the University of Miami School of Law, where he expects to graduate in 2028.
Thomas told Guinness World Records that engineering taught him how to break down difficult problems in a structured way, and he plans to use that approach in intellectual property law with a focus on STEM.
