Friday marks National Senior Citizens Day, and UPI Odd News highlighted five older adults whose recent accomplishments have drawn attention for all the right reasons.
Among them is British woman Betty Bromage, who went wing walking at age 97 years and 123 days on Aug. 4, surpassing her own Guinness World Record. Bromage had previously set the record at age 93 in 2022, and she used the attempt to raise money for the stroke unit at Cheltenham General Hospital, where she was treated after a stroke.
New Zealand's Bryan Murray also earned a Guinness World Record after water skiing on Auckland's Lake Kereta in April at 94 years and 318 days old. Murray has skied since 1955 and said he has no plans to stop, with hopes of breaking his own record in the future.
Other standout seniors include truck driver Orrin Asmus, who has been driving since age 19 and now works for McLaughlin Freight; Neville Sandiford, who became the world's oldest competitive croquet player (male) at 101 years and 262 days old; and 92-year-old Hisako Sakai, who won a Tekken 8 tournament in Japan against competitors ranging in age from 73 to 95, according to UPI Odd News.
