Producer David Holmes has shared new details about Sinéad O’Connor’s final, unreleased album, according to NME. Holmes, who worked closely with O’Connor in the last years of her life, posted about the project on Instagram and included messages he received from her while they were making the record.
The album was titled No Veteran Dies Alone, and Holmes described it as “a stone cold classic” and “a love letter to her children and the world.” In the messages he shared, O’Connor said she was pleased with how the music sounded and wanted to make a few changes, including adding more harmony vocals and improving the balance of the tracked vocals in the first verse.
O’Connor also discussed how she wanted the album arranged, asking for an a cappella intro and for the songs to be sequenced in chronological order based on when they were written or recorded. In one message, she said she was “proud of us” and wrote that she wanted to make records together until one of them died.
Holmes said he is still unsure whether the album will ever be released, but he believes it is important work. Other musicians and broadcasters, including Imelda May, Lauren Laverne, Jarvis Cocker, Stuart Braithwaite and Garbage, commented in support of the project and said the world should hear it one day.
