Animal services workers in Dallas rescued a raccoon after she was seen roaming a neighborhood for several days with a mayonnaise jar stuck over her head, according to UPI Odd News.
Locals had nicknamed the animal Mayonesa, and officials said she was spotted repeatedly in a residential area before capture attempts were unsuccessful.
Dallas Animal Services said two officers found her Monday morning in a tree near an abandoned house and waited at the base until she came down. One officer was then able to approach her from behind and safely catch her.
Mayonesa was taken to Dallas Animal Services, where she was sedated, given fluids, and had the jar removed. The agency said she was dehydrated after several days without food and water, but otherwise in remarkably good condition. She is now being cared for by Texas Metro Wildlife and will be returned to the wild.
