New details have been released about the death of former NBA player Brandon Clarke. According to E! News, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said on Aug. 7 that Clarke died from the effects of heroin and cocaine, and his death was ruled an accident.
Clarke was found dead on May 11 at his home in the San Fernando area of Los Angeles. Paramedics arrived around 5 p.m. and found him unresponsive in his bedroom, then pronounced him dead about 15 minutes later, according to the medical examiner.
Law enforcement previously told NBC Los Angeles that drug paraphernalia was found at the scene, which led investigators to consider the possibility of an overdose. The medical examiner later determined the death was drug-related.
Clarke’s death certificate, obtained by E! News, also noted the combined effects of multiple prescription medications. The 29-year-old played seven seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and was remembered by the team as a valued teammate and person.
