Putnam Avenue in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood has been renamed ODB Jones Way in honor of Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Ol’ Dirty Bastard, according to Stereogum. The change was marked yesterday with an official ceremony that brought together friends, family, and government officials.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard was born Russell Tyrone Jones in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood. A video shared by NYC photographer Howard Weiss showed ODB’s brother, Ramsey Jones, saying the new sign was placed at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Putnam Avenue, on the same block where their grandmother still lives.
That same block also features a mural of the cover of ODB’s debut album, Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version. The street renaming adds another tribute to the rapper in the borough where he grew up.
