Weezer fans may have a while to wait, but the band’s movie appears to be finished. According to Stereogum, guitarist Brian Bell said during a recent interview that the project is already “in the can” and is expected to arrive in 2027.
Bell shared the update at the premiere of Green Day’s movie Nimrods on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Hollywood American Legion Post 43. When asked by Los Angeles station Alt 98.7 whether Weezer was making a movie, he replied that they already had, though he added that he was not supposed to talk about it.
The movie was first mentioned last year when Rivers Cuomo told a Coachella crowd about it, according to the report. Green Day and Weezer both broke out in 1994 and later toured together on the Hella Mega Tour in 2021 and 2022.
Stereogum also noted that fans spotted a Weezer poster in a trailer for the Green Day movie. It is not clear whether the Weezer project is also a Live Nation Studios production.
