Billy Corgan says Smashing Pumpkins could do a unique Sphere show

Billy Corgan says he has “mad respect” for artists who have performed at the Las Vegas Sphere and believes The Smashing Pumpkins could one day mount a show that no other band could match, according to NME.

In a new interview with Consequence, Corgan said the venue would be a major production challenge and would require drawing a large crowd. He pointed to acts such as No Doubt, Eagles and U2 as examples of artists who have already taken on the space.

Corgan said he is not sure the band is large enough to fill the Sphere over time, but added that if they were given the chance, the Pumpkins could create something uniquely their own. He said the group’s theatrical catalog and presentation would suit the venue.

He also suggested the result could feel like a “goth winter” inside the Sphere, adding that Smashing Pumpkins may be the only band able to deliver that kind of experience at that scale.

The comments follow his recent interest in bringing the band’s ‘A Night of Mellon Collie And Infinite Sadness’ live show to the venue. That production pairs Corgan with a 60-piece orchestra and reimagines the 1995 album ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’.
