Three Maricopa Unified School District elementary schools have earned top marks from the Arizona Department of Education, according to InMaricopa. Pima Butte, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa elementary schools each received an A in the latest school ratings.
Superintendent Tracey Lopeman praised the schools in a district announcement, saying the grades reflect strong teaching, high expectations and a focus on student growth. She said the recognition highlights the work of both students and staff.
Arizona’s letter-grade system uses several measures to evaluate schools, including standardized test scores and student growth. The state says the accountability system is meant to help families better understand school performance.
Maricopa Unified received a B overall. Lopeman said the district is proud of the schools that earned top grades while continuing to work on improving performance across all campuses.
