Pete Doherty has told NME that the Babyshambles reunion tour exceeded expectations, calling it a “roaring success.” He said he was initially unsure whether fans would turn out, but the shows quickly proved there was strong demand for the band’s return.
Babyshambles first reunited for their first shows together in more than a decade last year, following the death of original guitarist Patrick Walden. The run wrapped up with a closing night at London’s KOKO in December, where Carl Barât joined them on stage for The Libertines’ “What Katie Did,” and the band played “Wolfman” for the first time in 20 years.
The group later announced a live album, Live At KOKO, set to arrive on October 9 via Doherty’s Strap Originals label. Doherty said the KOKO concert may have been the hardest one to capture on record because it came at the end of the tour, when the band was feeling a bit worn down.
Speaking to NME, Doherty also said there are “bits and bobs” of new Babyshambles material, but nothing immediate planned. He added that he is thinking about The Libertines’ next album, though he described that process as still open-ended, and said he is more focused right now on opening a second-hand shop in France filled with his records, clothes, typewriters, mannequins and books.
