Children’s educator and YouTube personality Ms. Rachel said on Instagram Thursday that she will match Macklemore’s $1 million donation to organizations supporting Palestinians, according to Billboard.
In her post, Ms. Rachel said she wanted other wealthy celebrities to do the same. She wrote that public figures have a moral responsibility to use their influence to protect children and human rights.
Her statement comes as Macklemore faces backlash related to his removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour. Billboard previously reported that Macklemore said he would donate his full $1 million in net earnings from the tour to six organizations working directly to support Palestinians.
The dispute has drawn in other artists as well. According to Billboard, Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Beoga have all withdrawn from the remaining tour dates. Ms. Rachel had already voiced support for Macklemore earlier in the week before announcing she would match his donation.
