Milwaukee rapper Funny $Money dies at 33 after shooting, report says

Milwaukee rapper Funny $Money has died at age 33, according to Pitchfork, which cited WISN 12 News. He was one of two people killed in a shooting in the city’s Old North neighborhood on August 17.

Born Quentene Williams, Funny $Money was known as one of the important figures in Milwaukee’s recent hip-hop surge. Pitchfork described him as a punchline-focused rapper with a sharp ear for R&B samples and energetic slap beats.

He was also a frequent collaborator in the local scene, appearing on tracks with many of Milwaukee’s rising names, including Sme Taxfree, Chicken P and Superthrowed Fay Fay. According to Pitchfork, he often helped keep momentum going in the city’s rap community when things slowed down.

Among his releases were 2022’s Don’t Talk 2 Much, which included the song “Rocky Balboa,” and 2024’s I Got the Hook Up Vol. 1: Big Bucks No Whammies. In a later interview cited by Pitchfork, he said seeing other artists from Milwaukee succeed while he was in prison pushed him to pursue rap more seriously.
