Plans for a dedicated food truck court in Maricopa’s Heritage District moved ahead Tuesday after City Council unanimously approved rezoning for the property, according to InMaricopa.
The proposed site could accommodate as many as 10 food trucks near Mercado and Main streets. Assistant City Planner James Kamstra said the site plan is still under review, and the project also calls for 27 off-street parking spaces.
During the meeting, Councilmember Bob Marsh asked whether the court would work with future First Friday events. Kamstra said the location sits along the same corridor where those events are held.
Vice Mayor Vincent Manfredi said the proposal could be an early step toward broader development in the area. According to InMaricopa, the city previously tried something similar, and Manfredi said revising the ordinance to allow food trucks was a key part of getting the effort moving again.
The proposal is part of Maricopa’s effort to find a more suitable place for food trucks to operate beyond the Central Arizona College parking lot. Previous reporting cited in the story says food trucks were told to leave the Fry’s Marketplace parking lot in 2023 after a dispute with the property owner, and the city has also dealt with trash concerns at other temporary food truck sites.
